Nolan Shaheed
Nolan Shaheed, born in 1949 in California, is a world-renowned jazz trumpeter and record-holding Master’s runner. A Pasadena native, he switched from violin to trumpet at 12, inspired by Louis Armstrong, and earned spots in the All-City and All-State Bands while excelling as a high school track star. His music career ignited in 1970s Los Angeles, playing with Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye, later becoming lead trumpeter for the Count Basie Orchestra. Shaheed has performed with icons like Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Miles Davis, and Earth, Wind & Fire, and toured with the Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton Orchestras. A sought-after studio musician, he has lent his versatile trumpet sound to countless recordings, showcasing his skill across jazz, soul, and pop, and released his album Lamentations From The Middle Passage, a testament to his creative depth. As a runner, he holds world records in the 800-meter, 1500-meter, and one-mile distances, jogging 10 miles daily on tour to hone his trumpet skills and spark compositions.
