Josephine Beavers
Josephine "Ready for Prime Time" (mini-doc)
Josephine Beavers, born in Washington, D.C., is an American jazz and standards singer whose timeless voice bridges generations. Raised by her mother, Laura Joy, a jazz vocalist who performed with Duke Ellington and Count Basie, Beavers grew up immersed in the golden age of jazz, inspired by Ella Fitzgerald’s regal presence at age three. Modeling herself after Peggy Lee and Lena Horne, she performed at corporate events, opened for the Count Basie Orchestra, and sang for McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc’s birthday parties. After prioritizing motherhood to raise four children, she partnered with arranger Ed Vodicka to release her debut album, Prime Time, in 2019. Recorded at Capitol Studios with an all-star orchestra, including Conte Candoli and Pete Christlieb, the album reimagines Great American Songbook classics with lush, heartfelt depth, reflecting her lifelong love for jazz tradition.
